What was the Chinese influence on the Transcontinental Railroad? |
The Transcontinental Railroad was a significant advancement in the United States as it was the first efficient way to get across the country. The success and completion of this railroad is in large part due to the help and work of the Chinese immigrants. The Chinese were recruited to work on the railroad and much like the Natives for their contributions, were not given the credit they deserved. In the final stop of the railroad, there was a picture taken of the workers to symbolize the ending and not one Chinese person was present in that picture. The Chinese also at some points, recognized they were being treated unfairly and implemented a strike. The railroad would not have been a success without the Chinese.
