What was the Korean War? |
The Korean War was a debated war among the citizens of the United States. The United States became involved in the war to aid South Korea against North Korea. There was a lot of back and forth between the North and South and a lot of United States originally supported the war but as time went on, they did not. Asian -Pacific Americans were first recruited to help fight this war, especially the Japanese. Korea used to be under the control of Japan and for this reason, many of them knew the Japanese language. Japanese Americans served as translators and interpreters for the United States army.
Within the war zone, many U.S soldiers had children with Korean women. However, once the war was over, many of these children became orphans and were ridiculed by other Koreans for being mixed. They were left in Korea with no other aid from the United States men who created these children. During the Korean War, many Koreans fled to the United States for refuge. If they did not flee to the United States, they fled to China. |
