What were the Colonies? |
People all over Western Europe began to travel to the new world. They came and took the land from the indigenous people already there. The people that came became to make a permanent place for themselves and these later turned into colonies. The first colony was in Virginia in a town called Jamestown. To the indigenous people, land could not be owned and they thought the colonists asking to buy land from them was kind of crazy. They believed the land was everyone's and belonged to the Earth. However, the colonists disregarded this as they were land hungry and pushed the indigenous off of their homes. The colonists implemented treaties with the Indigenous Peoples however, often, they would not make them clear and remember, there was a language barrier. The colonists took advantage of the Indigenous Peoples and disregarded the treaties later in time.
