How did the American Revolution begin? |
To begin, it is important to say that the Colonists and British were fighting over land that they took from the Natives. This was never their land, just land they felt they had acquired by coming to the 'New World'. The French had a good relationship with the Natives because both groups extensively traded fur and this was the basis of their connection. Both groups were civil with one another which is why the Natives fought with the French in the French and Indian War. However, some Natives did side with the British. The most well known on these groups was the Iroquois. The Iroquois sided with the British for two reasons, 1) they hoped that by helping the British they would stop taking their land and 2) their long time rival was fighting for the French, the Huron. Overall however, neither side would have been able to fight without the help of the Natives. They played a large role in the entire war. This war was one event that led up to the American Revolution.
