What was the 17th amendment? |
The 16th amendment was the amendment to enforce income taxes. There is a common misconception that Natives, today, do not pay taxes but this is false. Natives do pay taxes just as anybody else does. Puerto Ricans also pay taxes even though they are just a United States Territory. This is important to remember because if they pay taxes, they are contributing to the economy, if they are contributing to the economy, they should be receiving help from the United States. Also, there is a large misconception that undocumented immigrants are not paying taxes and are taking the tax payers money, again, this is not the case. Undocumented immigrants pay taxes just as anyone else does however, they receive no benefits such as social security or tax refunds as others do. The wealthy upper class has had many disputes regarding income tax. I will not touch into this too much but it is interesting to point out who exactly are the wealthiest people in the States and what ethnicity the vast majority of them have in common.
The 17th amendment addressed the Senate and this amendment has had many disputes about the want to repeal it. |
