What is this website? This website is a type of database to address the histories of Latinx, Asian-Pacific, and Natives in the United States beginning in the colonial era.
What is the purpose of this website? To show that social studies curriculum has the capability of being more inclusive. A large problem I have with the schooling in the United States is that it is not inclusive of minority groups. My goal was to provide as many resources as I could to allow for a diverse history.
Why create this website?Growing up, as a Mexican American, I did not learn about the history of Latinx once and therefore I was led to believe that all Mexicans were illegal as that was all that was talked about. I was always curious where people that looked like me came from and how we came to be in the United States.
How do I navigate this website? This website is laid out in the same format as a United States History text book. The different units you would find in a textbook are the same units you can find on the HOME page. Within those 'unit' pages, it is split up by the chapters and then has the corresponding information.
Why are only Latinx, Asian-Pacific, and Natives covered? The histories of these three groups are often not touched upon at all in a school setting. Due to these three groups being regarded as people of color, their histories are often blended together with the history of African Americans. While they have compelling similarities, I wanted to expand on each of these histories individually.
