What did the early 1800's look like? |
With a fresh and new country and a new document to unify them, trouble arose in trying to maintain stability among the states. Not everyone was satisfied with the new government, in particular farmers. The un-satisfaction of farmers led to Shay's Rebellion. While this rebellion is important, and farmers are too. most farmers at the time banded together to attack Native Americans. Even though Natives were the reason the Europeans knew how to farm, this appreciation was lost along the way.
Another major rebellion was the whiskey rebellion. The people were unsatisfied with the new tax implemented but an interesting thing to think about is these people also implemented a ton of unwarranted changes onto the natives and celebrated the death of many tribes. Along with developing a new economy in an everyday sense, people wanted to explore the west in hopes to expand their nation and economy. The famous Lewis and Clark expedition occurred because of this. Once again, this would not have been made possible without the help of natives and one native in-particular, Sacajawea. |
