What was the Seneca Falls Convention? |
Women fighting for equal rights during this time period beginning with Susan B. Anthony, has always been a fictitious tale of equal rights for all women. These women fought for the rights of white women and white women only. At the Seneca falls convention, there is no representation or inclusion of women of color although these women received even more unfair treatment from men. These women wrote the declaration of sentiments and this was signed by many people, including males. However, although this document individually addressed the unfair treatment the women received, they still viewed women of color as lesser than them. This including Latinas, Native women, Asian-Pacific women, and African American women. Not all women were equal and not all women were being fought for.
Just as the United States Constitution was based off the Iroquois way of government and structure, the movement for women's rights was based highly off the way Iroquois women were treated. Iroquois women had a significant role in their government and structure and the white women that observed their tribe noticed this and wanted the same respect and regard for themselves. |
