Who helped in the American Revolution? |
During the American Revolution there was much more going on the land than just this Revolution. There were many battles and wars with just the Natives as well and many treaties resulted because of them. A war that is worth noting is the Chickamauga Wars. This war was actually a series of different wars between different Native tribes and the British from 1776 - 1794. The main goal of these wars was to reclaim land and not allow the colonists to take any more land from them.
Another thing to come out of this time was treaties to help maintain peace after these numerous wars. A notable treaty is the Treaty with the Delawares. This was to maintain peace with the colonists against the British. However, treaties do not always last as the treaties signed during this time were often disregarded. Although these things were occurring during the revolution, Natives also helped in the success of the American Revolution. It is important to note however, that although they helped in the Revolution, when writing the Declaration of Independence they were not included in the process or considered to be part of the people the Declaration was made for. When looking at the Declaration of Independence you can see the hypocrisy that the the colonists had. They were upset with the injustices the King was doing to them but for the most part, inflicting the same injustices on the Natives. |
